Research has shed light on an important issue faced by Black mompreneurs- their mental health. Recent studies show that their challenges as entrepreneurs and mothers can significantly impact their well-being.
According to a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information, maternal mental health is vital, as it influences the mental well-being of their children. This highlights the urgency of supporting the mental health of Black mompreneurs, as it has a ripple effect on both their personal and professional lives as well as future generations.
Moreover, Forbes addresses the mental health challenges encountered by business owners, including Black women entrepreneurs. Juggling multiple roles, dealing with the pressures of running a business, and managing motherhood can affect their mental well-being. It emphasizes the importance of implementing strategies to support mental health and well-being as an entrepreneur.
Aligning with this research, recent data from our 2023 State of Black Women-Owned Businesses Report®️ (#SOBWOB) reveals alarming statistics concerning anxiety and stress levels among Black women entrepreneurs who are mothers.
34% of Black mompreneurs stated that on a scale from 1-5, their anxiety levels reached an all-time high of level 5.
An additional 39% reported their anxiety levels at a level 4.
Additionally, 31% of Black mompreneurs indicated that on a scale from 1-5, their stress levels reached an all-time high of 5. An incremental 46% reported their stress levels at a 4.
These findings emphasize the urgent need to address the mental health of Black mompreneurs. Furthermore, this data underscores the critical need for potential partners and organizations to step up and implement resources and support systems specifically tailored to address the mental health challenges faced by Black mompreneurs. As a community, we must rally together to provide the necessary support and create an inclusive environment that promotes well-being and success for all.
